We sauntered up to the Capitol grounds on a chilly Thanksgiving. The building is scaled monumentally, set on a hill in Harrisburg. It is more ornate and detailed then the average capitol, with some… Full review by Shawn H

If you like Mexican/Spanish food, Sunday brunch at El Sol in historic area of Harrisburg is great. They have a margarita bar that is fun. Also Midtown Scholar bookstore, great place for second-hand and new books, a coffee, just hanging out. Susquehanna Art Museum is great, a small fee but worth it. The museum can be done in an hour or so, some very interesting exhibits there. I'd also recommend Gettysburg and the Penn Dutch area if interested. If you are interested in the Penn Dutch lifestyle, you might be able to find places where you can go to dinner with a family to see their home and learn more about their lifestyle. The theme parks are OK if that's your thing, but they are on a smaller scale compared to places like Disney--they are OK but I feel folks should know that going in.

I believe the guided tours are free. There is no mention of a fee in a brochure we picked up on-site, and no mention of a fee on the web site for the State Capitol. The tours last 30 minutes. Monday through Friday, the tours run every half hour from 8:30 AM to 4 PM. Weekends and holidays, tours are offered at 9 AM and 11 AM, and 1 PM and 3 PM. And there are self-guided brochures available at the information desk if you want to go that route.
