There is a growing signal for winter weather across the Southern U.S. for the coming weekend. This could include at least parts of North Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
Winds will veer out of the west-northwest after 6 p.m. and gust 20 to 30 mph during the late evening and overnight hours. This means wind-chills of 30° around 4 p.m. will quickly plummet into the mid-teens by midnight. Tuesday will be brutally cold all day with morning wake-up wind-chills around 0° to 5°.
Typical January conditions will dominate the first half of the week, but extreme cold and the potential for a disruptive winter storm loom on the horizon.

Now, our attention turns to the cold and active pattern which should continue through much of the week, and a growing signal for potentially more winter weather over the weekend.
