Last year’s British Open champion has been playing catch-up for months after an early-season rib injury, but shot 66 Saturday and sits at 7 under.

Along with golf's oldest major trophy and the title of Champion Golfer of the Year, players were vying for their portion of a $17 million purse at the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Xander Schauffele was utterly unflappable, finishing 9-under par at the British Open after shooting a final-round 6-under-par 65. X marked the spot at the PGA Championship in May at Valhalla.
