Rare Antique Bible, Illustrated Explanatory Family Bible, Poor Condition C. 1870s-1880s* "The Holy Bible: With the Apocrypha, Psalms in Metre, and Marginal References and Readings," with Several Hundred Engravings, Maps and Plans, on Wood and Steel, Published by John E. Potter and Company, Philadelphia This gorgeous family Bible is bound in leather with embossment and gilded floral designs and a gilded personalized name. Spine is equal in design and has five raised bands. Inside is absolutely stunning with a colored illustrative page, multiple black and white illustrations, and black and white engravings by Gustave Doré and others. This Bible comes with the Apocrypha, and original family photographs in the back of the Bible! This is simply a stunning edition for any collector of rare antique family bibles! Loose pages are present! Potentially missing pages as well. Please see all photos for condition. Bible is need of a full binding, hinge, and page repairs. SOLD AS IS *Other like styled Bibles have a copyright date between 1870-1880s. One page has Rev. Washington B. Erbens, "A New Pictorial History," with a copyright date of 1873. However, Im unsure if this applies to the whole Bible or just this included excerpt. Condition:In poor condition. Cover board and spine shows heavy wear and tear with markings, scratches, stains, and rubbing; corners, spine, and edges bumps with material loss and moderate to heavy flaking due to usage and shelf wear; spine hinges has a moderate size cracks and tears and separation (needs repair); moderate to heavy foxing and stains from organic and inorganic material due to age and usage; binding and hinges are completely separated from back board and spine and the front board is extremely loose and wobbly; endpapers appear to have been repaired at some point; loose pages are present throughout; writing appears present (faded or otherwise); unsure if all pages are present; page tears and bent corners present; outer paper edges show marring.
